The Maytag Performa line of dryers are designed to be energy efficient and reliable under regular use. Though the designs of each Performa dryer model vary, the basic internal configuration of each model is the same. The heating element lies inside the cabinet, increasing the temperature of the dryer to dry wet laundry. If the heating element fails, you can remove and replace it with a new element.
M/F Remove the power cord plug from the wall to prevent injury from electric shock while servicing the dryer.
M/F Open the dryer door. Remove the screws located along the inside edge of the door frame. Close the dryer door.
M/F Grasp the top panel. Pull it toward the front of the Performa dryer to disconnect the internal clips. Lift the top panel up and away from the dryer.
M/F Remove the single screw on the top of the heating element canister. The canister is a rectangular metal enclosure near the back of the Maytag Performa dryer cabinet.
M/F Disconnect the wire connectors leading into the heating element canister. Lift the canister out of the dryer cabinet.
M/F Grasp the heating element inside the canister. Twist the element clockwise and pull it toward the bottom of the canister to remove it. You can now install a new element.
M/F After installing the new heating element, reverse the steps to reassemble the dryer.
